Resource efficiency is key to the future viability of companies in the mechanical and plant engineering sector. Competitive advantages and cost savings can be achieved through resource-efficient management. At the same time, statutory
efficiency requirements, material bans, limited resource availability and volatile price trends are increasing the pressure on companies to act. In order to be successful with resource efficiency, strategic goals and operational implementation are required.
The holistic consideration and implementation of resource efficiency is not easy for many companies. As VDMA, we have set ourselves the goal of providing our member companies with even better support in this step. That is why we launched a cooperation project with the EcoDesign working group of the Product Development and Machine Elements (pmd) department at the Technical University of Darmstadt at the end of 2012.
In addition to a technical introduction to the topic of resource efficiency, this guide provides pragmatic and easy-to-use tools for product developers and thus supports the development of resource-efficient machines and systems.
