Abstract:
The aim of the Structural Analysis III project was to enable global, comprehensive and reliable quality control
for seal mating surfaces without the need for highly specialized expertise.
The knowledge gained in the previous projects was used for this purpose.
The structure-based evaluation methods for twist developed in the previous projects were supplemented
by algorithms that automatically record and compensate for the orientation of a component to be measured in the coordinate system
of a measuring device. This made it possible
to create a user-independent and holistic measurement method for twist on gasket running surfaces
.
Experimental work from the previous projects was supplemented in the project by further conveying value
and endurance tests with test shafts subject to twist. On this basis
an empirical model was derived which describes the conveying effect of swirling seal mating surfaces
as a function of the relevant surface properties.
The concept of sealing reliability was defined, which was used to derive leakage limit curves
. These represent twist tolerance limits for the first time. Functional verification
of the tolerance limits was provided for the radial shaft sealing system under investigation by means of functional tests
.
