Abstract:
A test concept was developed for the determination of fatigue strength characteristics of case-hardened material states in which thin-walled pipe samples are tested under cyclic internal pressure in combination with static external pressure. Homogeneous material properties with carbon contents of 0.18%, 0.40%, 0.55% and 0.70% were achieved in the thin wall (20MnCrB5). The main stress direction in the pressure-loaded pipe sample is perpendicular to the main deformation direction of the starting material (steel bar).
