Project No. 185
Abstract:
The research project has developed a comprehensive approach to improving quality management in small and medium-sized enterprises with small batch and one-off production. The companies in question operate in markets in which competitive conditions have become even tougher in recent years due to the global recession. Quality, in the sense of the triad of product, time and cost quality, has become a decisive factor. However, it is clear that current quality management concepts do not meet the needs of the companies under consideration: Quality management methods do not meet the requirements of small-batch and one-off production, and it is difficult to find the optimum time for implementation. The aim of the project was therefore to provide the companies concerned with methods and procedures for establishing and effectively operating a quality management system for the product life cycle with a focus on the technical areas upstream of production. To this end, four key solution elements have been examined and translated into practical concepts: 1) the creation of a quality control loop model 2) the modification and creation of adequate quality management methods 3) the development of a meaningful quality performance indicator system and 4) the design of a suitable quality information system. The results are practice-oriented instructions for the development of quality control loops in small and medium-sized companies with small series and individual production as well as the collection and use of quality indicators and configuration instructions for a modern quality information system.
