Abstract:
Despite clear advantages, especially under the stress of high operating temperatures, there is no unanimous picture in favor of the high-temperature thermoplastic Victrex 450G. The user is therefore given conditions under which the use of this material makes sense. At the same time, the user is made aware of the limitations resulting from the material properties of the material and the special loads in plastic-steel gearboxes. The various possibilities for testing and evaluating plastic gears are clearly shown, in particular the current indispensability of the running test for determining service life and the significance of determining gear efficiency. A determination of the tooth bending life in the model test is not possible with the simplified method, since typical load characteristics are missing the hysteresis losses occurring here were measured and compared with the determined gear efficiencies. To determine the surface temperature, thin-film sensor technology was applied to the surface of the steel mating gear; the measurement technique is presented and the limitations associated with it are discussed.
